Last week, saw the opening of the 2023 Florida Legislative Session with presentations from the Governor and Senate and House Leadership. The 2023 Legislative Session will be impacted by a series of Special Sessions called in the lead up to the Session as well as the supermajority currently held by the Republican Party and the likelihood of the Governor announcing a run for President in the coming months.  All of these factors will influence the number of bills that pass as well as what bills are prioritized during the 60-day session.

Organized Medicine is pursuing a number of priorities this session to improve the practice environment for physicians in Florida. Some of those priorities include efforts to reform prior authorization; recognizing Audio-Only telehealth services; increased reimbursement in Workers Compensation; continued funding of loan forgiveness for physicians; clarifying the use of physician by medical practitioners; reform of pharmacy benefit managers; and funding the Stop The Bleed campaign.

We will also be concentrating on defending the practice of medicine and access to quality care for patients from any potential negative impacts from legislation addressing sovereign immunity limits; scope of practice expansions; civil remedies; PIP repeal; and wrongful death expansions.

A legislative tracking sheet with background information on the major bills we are watching can be found here.

The Physicians Society of Central Florida is committed to having a positive impact on all of these debates. We will make sure the membership is updated on all developments over the coming weeks.  If you have any specific questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office.
